The Digital Revolution: Time to up your game

l'echo

It is no longer sufficient to haphazardly and randomly implement digital applications in your company. Every business in Belgium must undergo a thorough transformation, driven by the possibilities of digital technology.

This is the message in my recent interview with L’Echo, where I outline how incredibly fast digital transformation is occurring. All that was available on your computer a decade ago is now available on your smartphone. There are 3 billion people connected to the Internet today. Next year that will reach 4 billion. By 2020 there will be 50 billion things and 200 billion sensors connected to the Internet. This opens a new stream in the digital revolution: what Accenture calls the Industrial Internet of Things.

Internally, companies can use a digital vision to improve efficiency and profitability. This is more than just about outsourcing back office operations. The phenomenon of the digital enterprise fundamentally changes the way businesses do business, using technologies, mobility and analytics for example. A company can modify its data flow, reinforce its value chain and improve yield. This will result in better business models, which are more efficient and collaborative with external partners.

Belgian companies still have many opportunities to seize. However, they must be careful to ensure that they do not create expectations that ultimately cannot be met. Customers detect quickly if there is something going wrong with the company, but they also sense when everything runs smoothly.
